Aside from long days and sweltering summer heat, August marks the beginning of the school season for Oklahoma children.

As parents are getting their kids ready, businesses around the state are gearing up and contributing to the continued success of our students in a variety of ways.

At Mercy, we are passionate about helping our children make better nutrition decisions, and it starts with making healthy foods easier for them to access. Here in the metro, Mercy works with a number of local schools to provide nutrition and gardening programs for students.

In southern Oklahoma, we've developed a community health plan to educate and empower school cafeteria staff members with the knowledge and skills to positively affect childhood nutrition and reduce childhood obesity. For several years, we've hosted a two-day nutrition workshop for cafeteria staff members from more than 15 school districts to make school food healthier and more appealing to students. …
