NEW YORK - There may be more nondescript games like this 5-2 loss to the Cleveland Indians on Saturday afternoon than not at Yankee Stadium over the rest of this season, games where the home team just doesn't have the offense to keep up, or to help out a pitcher battling through a so-so start.

But there also may be enough games where their young talent, like 23-year-old catcher Gary Sanchez, gives the organization hope for the future, as was the design when the Yankees' shipped off slugger Carlos Beltran, relievers Aroldis Chapman and Andrew Miller and starter Ivan Nova prior to Monday's non-waiver trade deadline.

"When you do your job like that, offensively and defensively, they both feel good," Sanchez said through a translator after being behind the plate for the second consecutive game and getting a hit for the fourth straight since being recalled Wednesday.

Sanchez went 1-for-3 with a run-scoring double in the Yankees' two-run second and threw out Brandon Guyer trying to steal in the fifth.

But Corey Kluber (11-8), the 2014 Cy Young Award winner, settled into a dominant outing before Miller earned his first Cleveland save since being traded. Kluber allowed five hits over eight innings, walking one and striking out eight, facing the minimum three batters in all but the second inning, striking out the side in the fourth.

The Indians (62-46) are in first place in the American League Central but had lost four of their previous five, with their starters going 0-4 with a 15.58 ERA and none lasting five innings.

The Yankees (55-55) have alternated losses and wins over their last seven games.

Sabathia (6-9) allowed six hits - including two of the Indians' three home runs - and three runs while walking four and striking out five in 5 2/3 innings, consistently falling behind in counts.

But Sabathia was impressed by his rookie catcher. …
