EDDIE Howe's Bournemouth exceeded the expectations of most and upset the bookmakers' odds by preserving their Premier League status in their inaugural seasonfi and could again spring a few surprises.

The players and management took a couple of months to adjust to the rigours and demands of the top-flight and it looked a little dicey when they dropped into the bottom three in early November.

But they learned a great deal from the experience and it will stand them in good stead as they look to avoid second season syndrome.

Bournemouth did have some chastening defeats - losing heavily home and away against Spurs and Manchester City - and are again likely to find the going tough when they face the big guns.

However, while their sights will be initially set firmly on holding their own in a mini-league at the bottom of the table, aiming higher will certainly be on the mind of ambitious boss Howe. …
