MURDEROUS plotting, saucy shenanigans, and fabulous costumes have kept us glued to this lavish drama about the court of French King Louis XIV.

And although the sex scenes caused quite a stir when this arrived on our TVs, that's not all that's kept us tuning in.

With a traitor in their midst, there's high drama in this blood- spattered conclusion.

Everyone is sound asleep in the Palace when Henriette (right) staggers into Louis' bedroom, blood pouring out of her mouth. "Help me," she mutters before collapsing.

Cue massive panic as the palace residents rally around - although Bontemps is mostly concerned that Henriette is languishing in the King's bed, rather than her own. Well you can't let a little thing like dying stand in the way of protocol.

She's rolling around doubled-up with stomach pain and the fear is that she has been poisoned - probably by someone who was with her on her journey to England. …
