The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is seeking input on a review of the environmental impact statement for the Mon Valley/Fayette Expressway PA Route 51 to I-376 project. If you believe, as I do, that the expressway project is essential for the economic revitalization of the Mon Valley, this is your opportunity to demonstrate your support.

The passage of state transportation legislation in 2013 has provided funding that can advance the final section of the expressway project. Sixty miles of the Expressway from I-68 to Route 51 is completed. The final 14-mile section from Route 51 to I-376 in Monroeville will ensure access necessary for economic redevelopment of the Mon Valley.

Key benefits of the expressway project include: direct access to 1,000 acres of brownfield redevelopment sites including Duquesne City Center and Keystone Commons; access for 1,500 manufacturing and related firms in the corridor that employ an estimated 22,000 people; 23,400 one-year construction and related jobs and 13,000 permanent jobs in 20 years; vastly improved just-in-time shipping; improved access for the Norfolk Southern Pitcairn Intermodal Terminal; and improved access for redevelopment of Mon Valley communities. …
