Great Falls Festival to Go on with Tweaks

PATERSON -- Despite a reduction in the city's financial support, the three-day Great Falls Festival will take place as scheduled over the Labor Day weekend, the head of the organization that runs the event said.

The loss of the city's subsidy for the cost of police security has forced some modifications in the plans for the festival, said Jamie Dykes, head of Celebrate Paterson Inc., the non-profit group that holds the event.

For example, the festival will start at 3 p.m. each say instead of at 2 p.m., and there will be one stage instead of two for musicians and other entertainers, Dykes said. Also, the fireworks show may be cut back, Dykes said.

"We're trying to find trims that will have the least pain," Dykes said.

The festival at the Great Falls will still feature numerous musical groups, rides, concessions and a motorcycle stunt team, Dykes said. …
