Salford among Unhealthiest Places to Live ; City Finishes Fourth in List of Areas Affected by Smoking, Diet and Alcohol-Related Problems

SALFORD is one of the unhealthiest places in England, exclusive data has revealed.

The Manchester Evening News has analysed six unique health indicators to come up with a comprehensive ratings system to rank local authorities across the country.

Our figures include data on smoking, diet, alcohol consumption and obesity.

Salford emerged as the fourth least healthy out of all 150 local authority areas in England once all the different indicators had been taken into account.

Salford was the fifth worst place in the country for obesity- related hospital admissions, with 1,858 people per 100,000 needing to do so in 2014-15. Nationally, the average was 811 per 100,000.

The city also performed poorly when it came to the number of people being admitted to hospital for alcohol-related conditions with 924 admissions per 100,000 people in 2014-15. This was the eighth worst figure nationally.

Elsewhere in Greater Manchester, Tameside was the 11th most unhealthy place in England while Manchester also made the top 15, coming 14th overall. …
