Mallinckrodt buys firm * Mallinckrodt has entered into an agreement to acquire a Wisconsin company that is developing what Hazelwood-based drugmaker says is the first "off-the-shelf" product that regenerates skin after it's damaged by severe burns.

Financial terms of the deal with privately-held Madison, Wis.- based Stratatech Corp. were not disclosed.

Stratatech's technology, known as StrataGraft, "produces living tissues designed to mimic human skin and promote tissue regeneration," according to a statement from Mallinckrodt. The typical treatment for severe burns requires skin grafts, or using healthy tissue from another part of the body to heal the injured portion.

Mallinckrodt expects the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to approve the treatment by 2020.

Mallinckrodt estimates the market size at $300 million based off the treatment of 10,000 patients annually for severe burns in the U.S. The technology could potentially treatment diabetic foot and venous leg ulcers, it added.

However, the market is quite competitive for this type of product, said Dr. Bruce Kraemer, a plastic surgeon and wound reconstruction expert at St. Louis University Hospital.

There are many products on the market that are effective at treating these wounds, Kraemer said.

Chris' Pancake heads downtown * Chris' Pancake and Dining is opening a restaurant downtown on the ground level of St. Louis University School of Law.

The restaurant at 100 North Tucker Boulevard, Chris' @ the Docket, will take over space that currently houses The Docket restaurant.

It's the second location for Chris,' which operates Chris' Pancake and Dining at 5980 Southwest Avenue in St. Louis.

"We are excited about this additional location that will give us the opportunity to not only reach the downtown community but also expand our menu," Chris Saracino, owner of Chris' Pancake and Dining, said in a statement. …
