Boosted by a fifth weekend, the St. Louis casino market fattened up in July with a nearly 4 percent jump in revenue.

The area's six casinos took in $90.5 million last month in net gambling revenue, compared with $86.9 million in July 2015, according to figures released Wednesday by state gaming regulators.

Net gambling revenue represents a casino's winnings, which is revenue from gambling slots plus table games less the casino's losses to its customers.

Weekends are typically a casino's busiest days. July 2015 had only four weekends. In addition, the market also suffered because of a power outage that forced closure of the Lumire Place casino for nearly seven hours on the night of Thursday July 23, and early the following Friday. …
