The most storied swimming program in the region has its new leader.

Lia Kunnapas was named Immaculate Heart's next head coach, and will rejoin her former team. She won two state titles for the Blue Eagles as a swimmer, and later worked as an assistant coach from 2013 to 2015.

Kunnapas will also head Bergen Catholic's swimming team, replacing Jason Schlereth in the dual coaching position.

"We are excited to bring Lia onboard as the head coach for IHA's swim team," Immaculate Heart athletic director John Downey said in a statement. "As an alumna, former IHA swimmer, and a past assistant coach, Lia knows and respects the tradition of our program and will continue to successfully lead our swimmers."

The Blue Eagles have won the past nine Non-Public A titles. They are defending Big North United and Bergen County champions, and finished last season undefeated in dual meets. …
