First Seven Teachers Hired after 40 Retire District Seeks 3-D Printer for Prosthetics

The Seneca Valley school board hired seven teachers on Monday and expects to hire more teachers next week.

Superintendent Tracy Vitale said staff screened 236 candidates in person for initial interviews that lasted about 15 minutes each. She said 196 of those candidates were brought in for longer interviews.

"We have had a very busy summer and I'm quite pleased that these candidates have been well vetted," Ms. Vitale said.

The district saw about 40 teachers retire at the end of the 2015-16 school year, according to Linda Andreassi, district spokeswoman. Ms. Andreassi could not say how many of those positions would be filled by new hires.

Also, the district is considering seeking a grant that will enable pupils to make prosthetics through a 3-D printer for people with disabilities.

School board members will vote Monday on allowing teachers Denise Manganello and Ken Macek to apply for the $5,994. …
