National Republican Governors Association Puts $1 Million into Missouri Gov Race

ST. LOUIS * The national Republican Governors Association has transferred $1 million to Missouri gubernatorial candidate Eric Greitens, records show, an indication of the level of national party interest in the race.

Greitens, a former Navy SEAL and author, is the GOP nominee running against Democratic nominee Chris Koster, currently Missouri's attorney general, in the Nov. 8 general election.

Both men have been fundraising juggernauts all year, but Greitens had to spend most of what he raised to win his party's nomination in a competitive primary, while Koster didn't. Prior to the Aug. 2 primaries, Koster was sitting on more than $10 million, while Greitens had less than $1 million on hand.

While Missouri's Legislature is solidly controlled by Republicans, its statewide offices, including governor, have been largely controlled by Democrats in recent years. …
