PATERSON -- An administrator who resigned from the school district under unusual circumstances has returned to take one of the its most challenging principal jobs.

Gerald Glisson has been appointed principal of Great Falls Academy, an alternative high school for teens with discipline and other problems, effective June 15, according to a personnel report made public this week. Glisson's salary is $126,079.

Glisson had been the district's athletic director for several years and was appointed to the principal of operations job at School 6 in 2014. But he resigned from the district without taking the School 6 job when Superintendent Donnie Evans told him to undergo a background check as part of the transition to the new position.

At the time, Glisson said the background check requirement was disrespectful to him because he had been working for the district for years. He and his supporters said at the time that there were no issues in his past that would be uncovered by the background check and that he resigned purely on principle. …
