Tulsa Reports Slight Drop in Sales Tax Receipts

TULSA - The city of Tulsa's August sales tax check totaled $19.6 million, down 0.3 percent from August 2015 and 0.01 percent more than the budget prediction.

The check from the Oklahoma Tax Commission covers retail sales during the period from mid-June to mid-July.

Sales taxes collected for the first two months of the fiscal year that began July 1 totaled $39.08 million, down 1.3 percent from the first two months of the previous fiscal year and 1.2 percent below the budget estimate.

"We continue to feel the effects in our city of the statewide economic downturn related to oil industry issues," said Mayor Dewey F. Bartlett Jr. "We have budgeted conservatively for this fiscal year. Our estimate is relatively close to revenue collections, yet six of the past seven months have shown decreases from one year ago. …
