South Charleston Sponsoring 'Elk Special' Bus to Summerfest for Flood Victims

The City of South Charleston has arranged for a KRT bus -- the "Elk Special -- to give those affected by the recent floods free rides to the city's Summerfest celebration on Saturday, Aug. 20. South Charleston Mayor Frank Mullens is inviting residents of the Clendenin-Elkview areas that were affected by the June 23 flooding to attend the main Saturday evening Summerfest events around the Mound.

With support from the Kanawha County Commission and KRT, the bus will begin running at 5 p.m. from the Clendenin area -- making multiple stops along the way -- to transport anyone to Summerfest.

Summerfest events that evening include entertainment by The Avalons and Rick K and the Allnighters, a dance contest, Kids' Zone (free sno-cones, cotton candy, Jupiter Jumps and face painting) and fireworks at 10 p. …
