Defender Has Turned Down Offers to Move from Blues

JASON Denayer turned down a number of offers to leave City earlier this summer after being told by senior officials that he would be a key first-team player this season.

The Belgium defender's opportunities under new manager Pep Guardiola have so far been limited, despite assurances from the club's technical staff as recently as two weeks ago that he would be one of City's top four centre-back options for the new season.

Denayer travelled to Gothenburg for City's final pre-season friendly against Arsenal but remained on the bench throughout, with Guardiola preferring a makeshift centre-back pairing of Aleksandar Kolarov and Fernando.

He has since been left out of the 18-man squad that faced Sunderland on Saturday and the 21-man party that has travelled to Romania for City's Champions League play-off with Steaua Bucharest. …
