Although dry ross are the trendy wine for summer, they are far from new. In fact, the vibrant pink wines from Tavel, the first appellation in France to produce only dry ros, are believed to have been favorites of the French kings Philip IV and Louis XIV. Located in the southern Rhne across the Rhne River from Chteauneuf-du-Pape, Tavel is famous for flavorful ross that are often complex and fuller in body. Although Tavel wines can be a bit pricey, below is an affordable one compared with a Ctes du Rhne from the same producer.
