TEANECK -- Selvage Avenue will be renamed in honor of the late Mayor Lizette Parker during an unveiling ceremony on her birthday, Aug. 31.

In keeping with Parker's commitment to helping the township's children, the event also will be marked by a presentation of school supplies to students.

Parker died in April at age 44 after being taken to Holy Name Medical Center with respiratory issues.

She was the first African-American and Caribbean female mayor in Bergen County and had served on the Township Council since 2006.

The Township Council this week unanimously approved the honorary name for the street -- Mayor Lizette P. Parker Way -- where Parker lived with her husband, Anthony, and 4-year-old daughter, Alyssa. …
