KIRKWOOD * Darius Daies hit the hole, cut to his right and never looked back.

The Brown-bound Chaminade senior running back scampered through the heart of Kirkwood's defense for a 51-yard touchdown with 10 minutes to play and put the Red Devils ahead to stay.

The Week 1 showdown of area heavies went to Chaminade 22-14 Friday night at Kirkwood.

"I saw the sideline and just hit it," Daies said. "That was a tough game. Their linebackers in the first half were dominating up front. Their D-line was getting into the backfield. Then, on that play, I don't think I got touched. It felt great."

Six players carried the ball for Kirkwood (0-1, No. 5 LS) and none broke double figures.

Senior quarterback Reece Goddard is among the area's most dangerous quarterbacks with the ball tucked under his arm. He carried the ball 11 times for 9 yards. He was sacked twice.

One of those sacks went to Trout, who gobbled up the 6-1 and 205- pound Goddard like a California roll.

"That felt great. That's a fast kid," Trout said. "They're a good team. We did what we were supposed to do, we did our jobs and we let the game to come to us."

Chaminade led 8-0 at halftime behind a 1-yard touchdown plunge by senior running back Bryce Johnson with 42 seconds left in the first half. McGovern then hit senior tight end Jamarion Johnson for the two-point conversion.

Kirkwood rallied in the third quarter as it took advantage of a Chaminade miscue. Senior running back Jakobi Buchanon fumbled the ball inside the Red Devils' 5-yard line. …
