Agape Flights Prepares for First Delivery to Cuba

VENICE -- Agape Flights will make its first delivery flight to Cuba on Tuesday, with water purification units and Tender Mercies food packets that will be used by the Cuban Council of Churches.

"We're just excited about the opportunity to work with the Cuban Council of Churches," said Allen Speer, CEO of Agape Flights, a nonprofit Christian aviation ministry that is based at Venice Municipal Airport.

The Council of Churches, Speer said, is a broad-based multidenominational group.

Speer has a history in Cuba and has traveled there as a senior pastor since 1992. He plans to leave for Cuba Monday on a separate plane and be at Jose Marti International Airport in Havana to greet pilots Steve Koch and Jeff Yannucciello when they arrive with Agape's Embraer 110 on Tuesday.

The 260-mile flight from Venice to Cuba should take about 90 minutes. …
