LYNDHURST -- Police officers broke up a heated argument between the township's mayor and a woman whose husband is a member of the township commission at a recent concert in a park, according to police reports.

Mayor Robert Giangeruso and Joyce DiMaggio, whose husband is Township Commissioner Thomas DiMaggio, had their hands on one another's torso and arms and were engaged in an argument that was "becoming heated" when the two officers approached them at the Aug. 17 concert at the Lyndhurst Town Hall Park, according to the reports.

The officers, James Goral and Geoffrey Rejent, had to "physically intervene and separate the two, which proved to be difficult, since both were acting very aggressive towards the other," Goral said in a report. He wrote that Giangeruso said "get her out of here" while Joyce DiMaggio yelled "get him off of me."

Police said the argument stemmed from an earlier verbal altercation at the concert between Joyce DiMaggio and the mayor's girlfriend, Laura Kopp, in which the mayor had intervened. …
