Police: Man Charged in Fatal Route 51 Crash Was Speeding

A driver who Pittsburgh police say caused a crash that killed his passenger last week on Route 51 was going nearly 100 mph when he crossed a median and struck an oncoming vehicle head-on, according to a criminal complaint signed Tuesday by a district judge.

Ismael Dominguez, 25, of Belle Fourche, S.D., remained in the hospital Tuesday, having had his own arm severed in the crash, and faces numerous charges in the death of Maria Luevano, including homicide by vehicle and causing an accident involving death while not being properly licensed.

He has not yet been arraigned, according to online court records.

The five-vehicle accident occurred about 6:10 p.m. Aug. 14 on Saw Mill Run Boulevard near Lime Street in Duquesne Heights.
