The grilling season is the perfect time to explore big red wines that can stand up to big juicy steaks or burgers. Among those wines are those made from the syrah (also called shiraz) grape varietal, which produces robust, peppery reds. While syrah has a long history in France's Rhne, it can also be found in many other growing regions throughout the world. Below is a comparison of bold Californian and Australian syrah wines that have been aged in oak for 18 months and are high in alcohol. These are not aperitif wines and instead are best enjoyed with hearty food.
