OCC Delays Action on AT&T Case

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma Corporation Commission did not decide Monday whether the agency has jurisdiction to hear an application about a 23-year-old telephone rate case.

However, Commissioner Todd Hiett said he thinks the agency should dismiss the case.

A group of well-known Oklahoma residents brought the case to the OCC in November, including Nichols Hills Mayor Sody Clements, former Tinker Air Force Base head Lt. Gen. Richard Burpee and Edmond Police Chief Bob Ricks.

The applicants claimed they were harmed by the 1980s decision that required Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. to reinvest $30 million into infrastructure. The applicants asked the OCC to reconsider refunding money to customers, adding 23 years of compounded interest. …
