Energy Shareholders to Vote on $12B Sale

Westar Energy and Great Plains shareholders will deliver "yea" or "nay" votes regarding the proposed $12.2 billion Westar sale at September meetings.

The two companies on Thursday filed the 150-plus page proxy statement related to the business deal, which must be approved not only by stockholders but multiple regulatory agencies. The deal pays shareholders $51 per share plus $9 per share in GPE stock.

The Westar special shareholder meeting will be at 10 a.m. Sept. 26 at the Kansas Expocentre, and Great Plains shareholders will meet at 10 a.m. at the company's Kansas City, Mo., office, 1200 Main St.

Shareholders of record, as of close of business on Aug. 22, 2016, are entitled to vote their shares.

In a news release, the company maintained that it is still on the road for a spring 2017 completion of the acquisition. …
