Living Arrangements Delay Woman's Return

PATERSON -- The homecoming of a 73-year-old city woman who had been missing for weeks before being found in a Manhattan hospital was delayed over questions about her living arrangements, her minister said.

Gloria Briggs remained in Harlem Hospital, where authorities found her on Wednesday after a search of city hospitals, said the Rev. Richard Campbell, pastor of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Paterson.

She is suffering from the early stages of dementia and hasn't decided whether to return to her Straight Street apartment at the Freedom Village senior citizen complex or to make arrangements to live in a setting with more supervision, Campbell said.

A Paterson Press article posted online Wednesday after Briggs was found quoted police officials who said she was on her way home, an assessment that turned out to be premature. …
