My first vote for president was cast in 1984 for Ronald Reagan. He struck me as a genuine American leader who loved liberty with all his heart. I never regretted that vote. I believe that only he, among the presidents I've known during my lifetime, would have been welcome in Independence Hall when our founders pledged their lives, fortunes and sacred honor to the United States of America.

Although I've voted in every presidential election since then, I cannot say that I've ever believed that any of the candidates truly believed in the idea of America or understood that liberty must be our primary philosophical ideal. Every one of the major party candidates and the presidents who have served since Reagan love been willing to compromise individual liberty as a quaint notion that gets in the way of the agenda of the party or the state. …
