Beaty Silent on Kansas' Starting QB

Article excerpt

When it comes to the Kansas football team's most pressing question, David Beaty plans on keeping fans, media and, most importantly, his next opponent in the dark.

"We might," the KU coach said. "We might not."

Beaty made no announcement Monday regarding who will start at quarterback this fall for the Jayhawks, adding that, at least publicly, he will not reveal who will take the team's snaps until KU's opener against Rhode Island at 6 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

"We're not going to name a starter," Beaty said during the Big 12 football coaches teleconference. "You'll see somebody run out there Saturday. Whenever that guy gets on the field, that will be the guy that takes the field."

"That's the advantage we're going to carry and we're going to carry that all the way into the game. We're not going to give that advantage away."

Cozart, listed at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, completed 66 of his 105 passes (62.9 percent) last season for 752 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He received a hardship waiver from the Big 12 after suffering a season-ending injury in the Jayhawks' fourth game last season at Iowa State, extending his college career by a year. …
