PATERSON -- The grim tally of victims of gun violence on city streets continues to rise.

Authorities said Saturday that a 20-year-old man was shot and killed on the city's Northside early that morning.

The shooting raised Paterson's homicide total for 2016 to 11.

The victim, Genico Robinson of Paterson, was found near 88 N. Main St. about 1:53 a.m., said Police Director Jerry Speziale. Officers were responding to the city's sound-activated gunshot detection system, Speziale said, referring to a mechanism installed by the city to help police monitor gunplay on Paterson's streets.

Robinson was taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

A preliminary investigation determined that Robinson had suffered two gunshot wounds resulting in his death, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes said in a press release. …
