Lawrence Man Seeking Grand Jury Inquiry of Kobach Appeals to Kansas Supreme Court

A Lawrence man seeking to force a grand jury investigation of Secretary of State Kris Kobach wants the Kansas Supreme Court to intervene after local judges dismissed the effort.

Steven Davis submitted a petition with more than 1,000 signatures to summon a grand jury in Douglas County that would look into Kobach. Davis has asserted rumors that applications and documents have been disappearing before reaching county election officers.

Kobach has said he isn't aware of any problems and has called the push for a grand jury investigation "ridiculous."

Douglas County District Court Chief Judge Robert Fairchild, on behalf of the district judges, earlier this month dismissed Davis' petition, saying the allegations against Kobach weren't specific enough. Davis is now asking the state Supreme Court to force the district court to call the grand jury. …
