PAUL O'GRADY isn't quite sure how he managed to steer his career from the days of Lily Savage and comedy entertainment through to becoming Battersea Dog Home's resident Dr Doolittle.

But, as a lifelong animal lover (he prefers animals to humans) he's absolutely thrilled about it. And he's perfectly at home at Battersea.

The only problem is he wants to take all the dogs home. "The temptation here is dreadful," says Paul, 61, who already owns five dogs, three goats, four barn owls, six pigs and eight sheep.

As he settles in for this fifth series, there's the usual canine commotion as Paul rolls up his sleeves to care for the troubled pups.

Tonight's episode will tug on the heartstrings as Paul tries to help three lost souls find a new home. Fortunately, the Liverpudlian's quick wit and humour keeps this show upbeat. …
