Article excerpt

The West Virginia University men's basketball team will get its showdown in Morgantown with Kansas - a rematch of the 2016 Big 12 title game - on Tuesday, Jan. 24. The announcement of that game was among the other updates announced Thursday as WVU finalized its Big 12 schedule. Much of the Mountaineers' 2016-17 slate had previously been announced.

WVU begins its Big 12 schedule with a pair of road games, at Oklahoma State on Friday, Dec. 30 and at Texas Tech on Tuesday, Jan. 3. The Mountaineers will play two of their last three games on the road, visting TCU on Saturday, Feb. 25 and Baylor on Monday, Feb. 27, before ending the regular season hosting Iowa State on Friday, March 3. West Virginia will visit Kansas on Monday, Feb. 13.

Squeezed within the Big 12 schedule is a game with Texas A&M in Morgantown on Saturday, Jan. 28, as part of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. The Big 12 tournament will begin Wednesday, March 8, with the title game tipping off Saturday, March 11. WVU beat TCU and Oklahoma in the 2016 tournament to draw a championship matchup with Kansas, where the Jayhawks won 81-71.

* The WVU women's basketball team will play 17 regular-season home games, a non-conference contest in Charleston and an exhibition game at Robert C. Byrd High School in Clarksburg, according to the 2016-17 schedule unveiled Thursday. Eight teams on West Virginia's schedule reached the postseason last year, including seven in the NCAA tournament.

The exhibition tips off Nov. 1 against Concord at RCB. Admission to the contest will be $5 for adults and $3 for children, with all of the proceeds benefiting those affected by the flooding in southern West Virginia.

The Mountaineers will play in one non-conference tournament, the Savannah Invitational, from Nov. 22-24 in Savannah, Georgia. WVU will face MEAC Tournament champion North Carolina A&T, East Carolina and NCAA tournament participant Auburn. WVU will play Longwood at the Charleston Civic Center on Dec. 17.
