Search for Gunman as Pensioner Shot in Leg ; Shocked Neighbour Says Street Is Usually Very Quiet, Adding: 'It's Quite Scary'

A PENSIONER was rushed to hospital last night after she was shot in the leg in Salford.

The 65-year-old woman suffered pellet wounds in the incident on Billy Lane, Clifton.

She was taken to hospital for treatment, but her condition was not understood to be life-threatening.

Police could not confirm what kind of weapon was used during the incident - but the woman is understood to have suffered an injury to her leg, possibly from a shotguntype weapon.

Armed police were called to Billy Lane after the attack took place at 5.20pm and there was said to have been a large police presence in the area.

Detectives have launched an investigation to find the gunman.

Salford has seen a string of shootings and firearm incidents over the last three years - in many cases linked to criminal gangs.
