Crylen to return to GTE * Jerry Crylen, the St. Louis real estate developer involved in the next phase of construction at the Cortex tech district, is headed back to his previous job.

Crylen will resume his role as managing director in St. Louis of GTE Development Advisors. He left GTE two years ago to join Wexford Science + Technology in the @4240 project at Cortex. That project was a $73 million rehab of a 1940s telephone repair plant at 4240 Duncan Avenue as labs and offices.

GTE said Crylen is returning after getting in place the forthcoming $175 million mixed-use project at Cortex. Officials have yet to specify the work, which is expected to include more labs and offices, a hotel, an apartment building and retail development.

"Shaping the next phase at Cortex by aligning competent developer partners and landing key tenants has been a gratifying experience," Crylen said in a statement. "Cortex 3.0 exemplifies superior urban revitalization, sets new place-making benchmarks for innovation districts, and will further catapult St. Louis regional development."

He helped fill @4240 with Cambridge Innovation Center, Square, Boeing Ventures, Manifest Digital, Husch Blackwell, AB Mauri and Washington University. (08.31)
