The River City Rascals qualified for the Frontier League baseball playoffs with a 5-1 win in their final regular-season game at Southern Illinois on Sunday night.

Josh Silver hit a two-run homer and starter Dan Ludwig allowed a run over 7 1/3 innings to highlight the victory.

River City (49-47) will host top-seeded Southern Illinois (63- 33) in Game 1 of a best-of-five semifinal series Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at CarShield Field in O'Fallon.

This marks the third consecutive postseason appearance for the Rascals, who finished as league runners-up in both 2014 and 2015.

The Rascals reeled off 11 straight wins in August to get back into the playoff chase but had dropped five in a row before Sunday's win. They finished one game ahead of the Lake Erie Crushers.

Game 2 of the River City-Southern Illinois series is Wednesday at 6:30 in O'Fallon, with the next three games set for Friday through Sunday in Marion, Ill. (Steve Overbey)

STLFC in Cincy * With just five games left and desperate for a win to keep its playoff hopes alive, St. Louis FC (7-10-9) is on the road Monday, taking on FC Cincinnati (12-6-7). Game time is 3:30 p.m.

The home team, in its inaugural season, is in sixth place in the United Soccer League's Eastern Conference and has already clinched a playoff spot. STLFC, which is 1-5-4 since the start of August, is 13th in the Western Conference, four points back in a crowded race for the eighth and final playoff spot.

On July 9, FC Cincinnati beat STLFC 2-1 in Fenton.

Top scorer Irvin Herrera and goalkeeper Ryan Thompson will miss Monday's game while on international duty for El Salvador and Jamaica, respectively. STLFC recently announced that defender- midfielder Parker Maher will miss the remainder of the season with a groin injury. Also out because of injury are defender A.J. Cochran, midfielder Alex Morrell and forward Schillo Tshuma. (Joe Lyons).
