'Star Trek' Anniversary Events Include New Spock Doc

Trekkies worldwide have been celebrating the 50th anniversary of the original "Star Trek" television series for months, but today is the day. On Sept. 8, 1966, the show debuted on NBC and went on to live long and prosper, in syndication and beyond.

Among Pittsburgh celebrations this weekend is "A Steel City Celebration of Star Trek" at the Hollywood Theater in Dormont, which kicks off with a 6 p.m. showing of "The Wrath of Khan" Friday.

Members of local fan groups the USS Inferno and Klingon Assault Group will on hand for festivities that include DJ Zombo, a costume contest and a pop-up art gallery. Tickets are $10, with proceeds benefiting the Hollywood Theater and the ToonSeum.
