SCOUTING REPORT * The Cardinals have won five of the first six games with the Brewers at Busch Stadium and finished 6-3 at Miller Park. ... While the Cardinals have been bad at home, the Brewers have been dreadful on the road at 23-44, worst in the majors. The Cardinals will have to win 11 of their final 14 games to finish with a winning record at home. All 14 of those games will be against the four other teams in the National League Central, against whom they were 33-25 before Wednesday night.

Brewers infielder Jonathan Villar, who had 52 steals, was only five behind injured Billy Hamilton of Cincinnati and could be only the second Brewer to lead the league in steals. Scott Podsednik led in 2004. Tommy Harper topped the American League in 1969 for Seattle, which moved to Milwaukee after one season.

Shortstop Aledmys Diaz (fractured right thumb) should return sometime this weekend for the Cardinals. …
