3 Murder Defendants Offered Prison Time

Three defendants pleaded not guilty Thursday to murder charges in the fatal shooting of a Paterson man outside an illegal after-hours club two years ago.

Jennifer Suriel, 41, Angel Toro, 35, and Luis Polanco, 26, were indicted a few weeks ago by a Passaic County grand jury on murder and weapons charges in the killing of Jose Rodriguez in March 2014. Suriel also is charged with hindering apprehension.

Authorities arrested Toro in June, accusing him of shooting Rodriguez, who was 25, multiple times outside ZamZam, a restaurant on Crooks Avenue near Main Street that also operated as an after- hours club. Prosecutors announced indictments two weeks ago against Suriel and David Lawrence, 31, of Paterson, charging both with participating in the slaying.

Prosecutors also charged Polanco with the killing. …
