Jenkin Goal Lifts Pompton Lakes

POMPTON LAKES - A quick check of reference on the Internet said that French mathematician Benoit Mandelbrot was the first person to be quoted as saying "that every nice piece of work needs the right person in the right place at the right time."

Mandelbrot died six years ago, but his theory certainly became prophecy for Pompton Lakes sophomore midfielder Bobby Jenkin.

With 20 minutes left in Thursday's season opener against Elmwood Park, Jenkin decided to heed his coach Rob Edgar's words and push forward a little to follow a play being made by teammate Jason Charyak.

"Coach always tells us to tuck behind the play to see if you can get anything out of it," Jenkin said.

"We knew we needed to have a balanced attack on that play," Edgar said. "Bobby didn't give up on the play. I'm glad to see that what is being coached is actually being implemented."

Jenkin trailed Charyak by about 15 yards to see what would transpire, whether Charyak would shoot or perhaps cross the ball toward the goal. …
