A YOUNG rally driver from Cheshire is bidding to make history as he closes in on glory.

Chris Ingram, who is currently ranked number one rally car driver in England, is looking to become the youngest ever European Rally Champion at the tender age of 22.

This would see him surpass the late Colin McRae in achieving the feat.

The talented Ingram, from Wilmslow, has won the prestigious Motor Sports Association Young Driver of the Year Award and the European Rally Championship Colin McRae Flat Out Award on two occasions. He said: "It's been a perfect first half of the season and it feels great to be not only representing the Brits but to be leading the championship against some of the best drivers in Europe.

"I stand a fantastic chance of winning the European rally which would be such a great achievement for me at this stage in my career. …
