Bresch Is Named to Fortune's 'Most Powerful'

Fortune released its annual 50 Most Powerful Women list on Thursday.

While the first-place finisher - General Motor's CEO Mary Barra - wasn't surprising, one woman in the middle of the pack undoubtedly raised a few eyebrows: Mylan CEO Heather Bresch.

Ms. Bresch - who ranked No. 23, one notch down from last year - has been roundly vilified in recent weeks as the head of the drug company that raised the price of the EpiPen allergy treatment some 500 percent in recent years, making it unaffordable for many who rely on the potentially life-saving device.

"Some might wonder why Fortune chose to keep her on the list at all," Fortune wrote in a lengthy explainer. "Or why we didn't drop her further down the ranking to reflect the universally negative backlash her actions have provoked."
