SARASOTA

SARASOTA -- City finance director John Lege has been named to the city's newly created assistant city manager position.

Lege, who has worked with the city since 2013, will now oversee the Sarasota's financial administration, human resources, information technology, parking management and facilities departments.

The move is designed to ease growing management responsibilities on City Manager Tom Barwin and Deputy City Manager Marlon Brown as major initiatives demand more time and attention, Barwin said when he presented the move to the City Commission on Tuesday night.

Brown will now oversee "physical services" like planning, development services, parks, public works and utilities, according to the city's new organizational chart.

Barwin will directly oversee the Sarasota Police Department, Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall and "sustainability" issues, he said Tuesday night. …
