Gas Driller Will Pay for Half the Cost of Ritchie Road Repairs

Antero Resources, one of the largest gas drilling companies in West Virginia, is paying half of the cost of a $3 million project to repair parts of W.Va. 74 in Ritchie County, north of Pennsboro. The Denver-based oil and gas company is paying $1.5 million for the repairs as part of its ongoing operations in the region, according to a news release from the West Virginia Division of Highways.

The news release said the road project will repair failures in the base of the road and will resurface a more-than 8-mile section of the road. The project is expected to completed by November.

Antero has had significant drilling operations throughout that region in recent years as part of the industry's push to produce gas from the Marcellus Shale formation, and the company recently purchased another 55,000 net acres of mineral property in West Virginia for $450 million from Southwestern Energy. …
