Elaine Asciak sat next to her daughter and nephew, as she does every year when this day comes around.

She was at Overpeck Park on Sunday afternoon for the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, attending a ceremony held at the county's memorial to those who perished on that day.

She listened as a priest, an imam and a rabbi offered words of peace, words of remembrance.

Then she took the podium, her husband Michael's name carved into the stone memorial behind her.

She was the first to read the names from the list of the 147 Bergen County residents who lost their lives on 9/11.

In her words, interspersed with the names of others and her beloved husband, a Ridgefield resident who left for work in the Twin Towers that day never to see his daughter grow from a bright-eyed 10- year-old girl to a woman who'll turn 26 in a few short days. …
