Paterson Man Pleads Not Guilty in Shooting

A Paterson man pleaded not guilty Monday to charges that he participated in the fatal shooting of a city man outside an illegal after-hours club two years ago.

David Lawrence, 31, said nothing during his arraignment in Superior Court in Paterson, where he was brought in shackles and an inmate suit.

Eileen Kane, a Passaic County senior assistant prosecutor, read the charges against him: Murder and two counts of criminal weapons possession.

Lawrence is one of four defendants indicted on murder charges in the March 2014 killing of 25-year-old Jose Rodriguez. The three other defendants -- Jennifer Suriel, 41, Angel Toro, 35, and Luis Polanco, 26, all of Paterson -- were arraigned on Thursday and pleaded not guilty to similar charges.

Toro was arrested in June and was the first to be charged with Rodriguez's murder. …
