HACKENSACK -- The City Council on Monday night appointed a former business administrator and police chief to succeed City Manager David Troast when he steps down at the end of the month.

The council approved the resolution 4-1 appointing Ted Ehrenburg as city manager beginning Oct. 1. Ehrenburg, 59, of Hackettstown, worked as a business administrator in Bloomfield and Bloomingdale and as police chief of Washington Township with 28 years in law enforcement.

Councilwoman Deborah Keeling-Geddis voted against the appointment.

Ehrenburg began serving as the business administrator for Bloomfield in November 2012. He accepted a reduced role as assistant administrator for six months in June 2015, according to Bloomfield Life. The reduced role was the result of a 4-3 township council vote that came after a performance evaluation. …
