Crane Drops Debris on Vehicle | Scrap Plywood Fell onto a Passing Car on Second Street

DOWNTOWN CONSTRUCTION

SARASOTA -- A crane operator who was lowering a waste bin at a downtown construction site Thursday struck the side of a building with the bin, causing debris to fall onto on a passing car.

According to a Sarasota Police Department report:

Officers responded to 1401 Second St. at 7:27 p.m. for a report of property damage.

Sarasota's Elaine Marene Foster, 69, told officers that she turned onto Second Street from Central Avenue and that debris fell from the construction site at the corner of the intersection and hit her car. Foster was not injured, but her car had multiple dents and scratches.

Debbie Trice posted an account of the incident on the public Facebook group, Citizens for Sarasota County. She said she was in the damaged vehicle, which had turned from Central Avenue to Second Street to enter the parking garage at Whole Foods. …
