GRAEME Wilson bids to shed the title of 'the best player never to win the Waterloo' when the most famous event in crown green bowls reaches its climax in Blackpool next week.

The 44-year-old from Droylsden has won virtually every big title in the game apart from the one everybody covets.

And he has again reached the last 64 of the event, that is sponsored by Co-op Funeralcare, with the last 16 on Tuesday and the final eight the following day screened live on ITV4.

Wilson has played on Waterloo finals day five times, reaching the final in 2002 when he was beaten by Stan Frith and the semi-finals in 2009 when pipped by Lee Heaton.

Gary Ellis is bidding to become the first man in the event's history to win the title for a sixth time. …
