Paterson Planning to Rename a Street after Nazerah Bugg

PATERSON -- City officials plan to pay tribute to the 14-year- old girl killed as an unintended target in a September 2014 street shooting by renaming a 1st Ward street where she played basketball just before her death.

Nazerah Bugg would share the designation with basketball coach Tyrone Collins, who died at 46 in a swimming accident in 1996 at his home in Wayne. Under the plan, Presidential Boulevard between Temple and Arch streets would be known as Nazerah Bugg and Tyrone Collins Way.

Previously, the city had named the park and basketball courts on that block in Collins' honor.

The resolution is one of several street-naming initiatives scheduled for a Sept. 20 vote. The others:

* Renaming Grove Street between Main Street and Getty Avenue as Thomas Rooney Way to recognize the man who served more than three decades on the City Council. …
