Women Arrested on Prescription Fraud Charges

CLIFTON -- A 32-year-old city woman and a North Brunswick woman have been criminally charged after they allegedly called in fake prescriptions to North Jersey pharmacies.

Clifton resident Amaal Abuhabdeh, 32, and North Brunswick resident Melanie Madigan, 18, were arrested at the Stop & Shop grocery store at 160 Kingsland Ave. around 8 p.m. Wednesday after they filled a fraudulent prescription for 120 pills of Tramadol, an opioid pain medication, according to Passaic County Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik.

Detectives were told that a person -- later identified as Abuhabdeh -- was calling in the fake prescriptions for Tramadol and allegedly claimed to be an employee of Medical Pain Management Practice in Paterson, Berdnik said. Detectives had video surveillance from several pharmacies that allegedly show Abuhabdeh and Madigan filling the fake prescriptions. …
